■ Editor’s Note: This is the first in a 10-part series looking back at the biggest athletic stories at Wiley College during the 2018-19 school year.
Kendrick Biggs wrapped up his fourth season as head baseball coach at Wiley by leading the Wildcats to the most wins so far of his head-coaching career.
The Wildcats finished the season with a record of 19-27. In addition to that, they also defeated NCAA Division I Grambling State in an exhibition.
Wiley started the season off at 7-3.
“Just the guys buying all the way into the program and guys continuing to come back and stay with us, and just their hard work,” Biggs said were the keys to the team’s success this past season.
He added there are several moments that stand out from the year.
“I guess I would probably say when we went down to play Faulkner at their place,” Biggs offered. “Despite losing, we played very well. If it wasn’t for an error or two, we probably would have won.”
He added that he’s looking forward to another solid season in 2020.
“We’re very excited,” he said.
“We’re returning a lot of talent, a lot of speed and some good pitching. So we’re just looking to build off of that and build off the foundation that the senior class this year set and continue to get better.”
